Family and friends wishing to confirm a patient's ward location can contact the Southland Hospital switchboard staff, who can assist on telephone +64 3 218 1949. Please be aware that patients have the right to privacy and if they have requested that no information be released (including confirmation of their admission to hospital) then Southern DHB staff will respect this request.
Telephone calls into ward or clinical areas are limited to emergency or urgent matters by immediate family members. Regrettably, it is not possible for clinical staff to field non-urgent telephone queries and messages. Southern DHB encourages one nominated family member or friend to provide updates to the patient's extended group of family and friends, to help keep them informed of the patient's progress.
