Allied Health
Southern DHB's Allied Health professionals are a diverse and highly skilled group who work collaboratively with other disciplines and departments to provide high quality, client focused services. The Allied Health division has a strong identity across the organisation with over 200 Allied Health professionals employed by Southern DHB, including:
Our Allied Health staff enjoy very strong professional support and have plenty of opportunities to advance and upskill, as well as to attend courses and conferences which contribute to overall learning and professional development. As a University teaching hospital, there are a variety of teaching activities taking place across the organisation. In-service case reviews and education sessions (eg journal clubs, study days, supervision, peer review), as well as departmental, multi-disciplinary teaching sessions provide opportunities for Allied Health staff to reflect on their practice and enhance knowledge and understanding. Professional Advisors are in place in many of the Allied Health disciplines to support and mentor staff as well as to ensure good working relationships are in place with other departments to assist in smooth service planning. Strong links with national professional bodies and a number of New Zealand educational institutes are also in place in support of student placements, new graduate employment and accredited training programmes being provided by Southern DHB. New graduate Allied Health professionals are warmly welcomed as part of our team and we look forward to supporting you as you commence your career. Working in comparatively smaller sized teams than the large tertiary facilities, you will enjoy working in a supportive team environment with experienced staff able to mentor and support you as you consolidate knowledge and gain practical experience. As a base hospital you will see a broad range of cases with varying levels of acuity. More experienced Allied Health professionals have significant opportunity to advance their careers working with Southern DHB by leading services and driving new initiatives, providing sub-speciality leadership and playing an active part in teaching programmes. We value the experiences that you bring and are always interested in new ideas. Our Allied Health professionals deliver a range of vital health services to our patients and clients and we value this highly skilled group of staff. We have opportunities for Allied Health staff to work at Southland Hospital in Invercargill; Lakes District Hospital in Queenstown or in our Mental Health Services based in Invercargill, Gore and Queenstown. |
