With over 1000 nurses working across a variety of work environments in our region, nurses make up one of the largest workforce groups in Southland.

The annual Southland Nursing Excellence Awards are held on International Nurses' Day (12 May) to recognise and formally celebrate nursing innovation, clinical excellence, contribution to the community, leadership and research by Southland nurses.

Scholarships are awarded to successful nominees across primary, community, aged care, occupational health, mental health and secondary care nursing environment to advance practice or professional development.

The scholarships are funded by Southern DHB and the Violet McBain Trust, the four Primary Health Organisations (PHOs) and a number of local Older Persons Care Providers.
