Southern District Health Board

Quality and Humanity in Health

1. Delivering Wakatipu Health Services in the Future

Before the Southern DHB came into being on 1 May, Southland District Health Board (Southland DHB) sought the communites feedback from Monday 1 March - Friday 23 April 2010 on a proposal to change the way healthcare is delivered in the Wakatipu Basin.

There are a number of challenges the DHB and the Wakatipu Basin community face. In order to address these challenges Southland DHB proposed a different model of health service delivery, an upgrade to the Lakes District hospital facility to establish an Integrated Family Healthcare Centre (IFHC) and a change to the way it is governed.

The feedback report is a summation of DHB staff and the public's feedback. It does not make any recommendations, however it will be used to inform a DHB management recommendation to the new Southern DHB Board (which was formed on 1 May 2010 as a result of the merger of Southland and Otago DHBs) after consultation with staff and their representatives.
