The Medical Assessment Unit in Dunedin Hospital is a new initiative to improve admission quality and patient flow for Internal Medicine patients. An 8 bed unit seeing acutely presenting patients with a variety of conditions. Senior House Officers looking to expand their experience in Medicine and increase their patient contact are invited to apply for this position. With support by a Medical Registrar and the acute call Consultant Physician the position will be helpful to doctors wishing to transition to Medical Registrar but wanting to improve their medical expertise.
With extensive links to the Dunedin School of Medicine, RMOs at Dunedin Hospital enjoy the best of the clinical and academic worlds. The MAU SHO can expect to work closely with number of dedicated and training focused Consultants.
Regular teaching opportunities include the Medicine Grand Round, sub-specialty Grand Rounds, Journal Clubs, x-ray meetings, CCU teaching, and Clinical Audit Meetings. Regular opportunities also exist for those interested in teaching by way of sessions with medical students.
Whether you are training towards a career as a Physician or wanting to move into General Practice or Rural Hospital Medicine, this role will provide you with what you need. To be eligible to apply for this role, you must possess a keen interest in the area of General Medicine and have a minimum of 2 years post graduate medical experience.
It is proposed that there will be three shifts over a two week period – 0900 – 1500; 1400 – 2000; 0900 – 2000 hrs with an approach to flexibility.
Must be able to commence on or around 4 September 2017.
