Medical Officer Emergency Medicine or Rural Hospital Medicine
Your dream opportunity just arrived, Queenstown’s Lakes District Hospital has a 6 month Medical Officer position available from December 2017 to June 2018 to cover the leave of one of our team. This vacancy is suitable for Rural Hospital Medicine Registrars, Emergency Registrars (accredited for 6 months special skills) or medical officers with an appropriate skill set.
Lakes District Hospital consists of 10 General Medical (Acute) beds, five Maternity beds, Emergency Department and a small out-patient department. It has onsite Radiology and access to Laboratory services and a CT scanner (at Dunstan Hospital in Clyde). In this role you will work mainly in the Emergency Department, where we see around 10,000 new attendances per year, with a patient population that is young and international, the spectrum of disease seen here is hugely varied. At Lakes District Hospital you’ll be part of a team of 9 FTE rural hospital doctors and medical officers. You will need to be a confident practitioner as your on-call backup may be up to 30 minutes away, though there is easy access to phone advice. An on call room is provided.
You should have sound ED skills and experience, and ideally also some exposure to ICU/anaesthetics. Any time spent in orthopaedics, general medicine and paediatrics will be beneficial. You will have previously worked as a solo medical practitioner, or be ready to do so. You must be registered with the New Zealand Medical council, or meet the requirements to become registered by commencement of employment.
