Critical Care Unit

Introduction

The Southland Hospital Critical Care Unit (CCU) provides Intensive and Coronary care.   This excludes conditions where more complex input is required.  In these cases, patients may be transferred to Dunedin Hospital.

The CCU Care patients are the sickest patients, requiring one-to-one nursing.

The team is made up of experienced Professional Doctors, Nurses and Allied Health staff.

The Doctors have specialised in taking care of seriously ill patients, with the lead Anaesthetist being an Intensive Care specialist who works closely with the Physicians and Surgeons.  The Registered Nurses are trained in Intensive Care and Cardiac nursing.

Visiting is limited to immediate family.
