Southern District Health Board provides a wide range of hospital and community-based surgical services. Hospital services are provided at both Dunedin and Southland hospitals. Outpatient assessments and follow-ups are provided at a number of locations throughout the region. Emergency care is also available through the hospital emergency departments.
Surgery is provided for most conditions, some specialist conditions though will be sent to other areas of New Zealand, for example organ transplants or serious burn victims.
In each service expertise is high with a full team of surgeons, junior medical staff, nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians, pharmacists, radiographers, occupational therapists, speech language technicians and biomedical technicians.
If attending an outpatient appointment you are welcome to have a support person accompany you.
