Smokefree/Auahi Kore Health Promotion aims to reduce the impact and incidence of tobacco related harm by:

  • Increasing the number of people having quit attempts
  • Reducing smoking initiation
  • Increasing the number of smokefree environments

Smokefree Officers regulate according to the Smokefree Environments Act 1990 to reduce:

  • The sale of tobacco to people under 18 years
  • Smoking inside a workplace
  • Smoking inside licensed premises
  • Advertising tobacco products or brands.

Complaints under the Smoke-free Environments Act
Public Health South employs designated Smoke-free Officers to enforce the Smoke-free Environments Act.  Smoke-free Officers respond to complaints from the public regarding:

  • The sale of tobacco or herbal smoking products to people under 18 years
  • Smoking inside a workplace
  • Smoking inside licensed premises
  • Advertising tobacco products or brands
