Quality and Humanity in Health

Southern DHB undertakes an ongoing cycle of planning to identify how we will purchase and deliver health services within our available funding and how we will implement national and local health strategies to best meet the community's health needs and improve our population's health status.

As part of this process, Southern DHB is required to prepare and have agreed by the Minister of Health, several key accountability planning and report documents, as described below.

As the Southern DHB was created from the merger of the Otago and Southland DHBs this year, on 30th April 2010. Therefore the below documents relate to the former Otago and Southland DHBs. As each plan and strategy is updated, it will be revised to cover both Southland and Otago for the new Southern DHB and will build on the work and the strategic direction set by the Otago and Southland DHBs.

District Strategic Plan

The District Strategic Plan (DSP) is prepared every five years, in conjunction with the Health Needs Assessment (Health Profile) of the local population and government policy and strategy. The DSP sets out our health priority areas and the broad direction that Southern DHB will take in purchasing and providing health and disability services in order to improve, promote and protect the health of our community.

 

 

 

District Annual Plan

The District Annual Plan (DAP) is prepared annually for the financial year 1 June - 31 July. The DAP is the DHB's action plan and details how we will spend our funding for that year and what we intend to achieve within the twelve month period in order to progress the goals and vision agreed in the District Strategic Plan.  Once the DAP is agreed to by the Minister of Health, a Crown Funding Agreement is made and funding is received.

 

 

 

Statement of Intent

The Statement of Intent (SOI) is a key accountability document prepared annually in conjunction with the District Annual Plan and in line with the District Strategic Plan. The SOI outlines to Parliament and the public the key performance indicators that Southern DHB intends to meet in order to improve, promote and protect the health of our local population.

 

 

 

Annual Report

The Annual Report is prepared annually and reports to Parliament and the public how Southern DHB has performed against the objectives and key performance indicators set within the Statement of Intent and District Annual Plan, and the progress the DHB has made towards achieving the overarching goals outlined in the District Strategic Plan.
