Southern DHB has reached agreements on renewal of primary maternity contracts with Central Southland Hospital Charitable Trust, operators of Winton Maternity Centre, and Northern Southland Health Company, operators of the Lumsden Maternity Centre.
The contracts will be renewed from 1 August until September 2018.
“We are very pleased to have come to an agreement with the centre operators in Lumsden and Winton,” said Liz Disney, acting Executive Director, Planning and Funding, Southern DHB. “A strong network of birthing services and a continued commitment to primary maternity services is among the recommendation in the primary maternity services report which Southern DHB released last month.”
The report highlights the many strengths of the current system as well as opportunities to improve the configuration of birthing facilities and services to address changing demographics and shifting populations and to meet the preferences and needs of mothers, their families and whānau for years to come.
A workshop with consumers and clinicians to test proposed principles for future design of a district-wide maternity service which is clinically and financially sustainable will be held in the coming weeks. The outcomes of the workshop will be the basis of future recommendations for the configuration of primary maternity services for the Southern district.
