Children and Young People

Kia ora and welcome to the Children and Young People section of the Southern DHB website.  Southern DHB is committed to improving the health and well being of children and young people in our district.  There are a number of initiatives now underway regionally and nationally which provide direction for child and youth health service planning in Southern DHB:

  • Compass provides specific direction for DHB approaches to improving the quality of health services for children and young people.

  • Delivery on the Children’s Action Plan (CAP) is a key priority for the Government.  Southern DHB plans for delivering on the CAP and other government commitments are incorporated into the Southern DHB Annual Plan (2014-2015).

  • The Southern DHB Māori Health Plan (2014-2015) includes a number of priorities and actions to improve health for tamariki and rangatahi.

  • Southern DHB is represented onSouth Island Child Health Alliance.  The South Island Alliance enables the region’s five DHBs to work collaboratively to develop more innovation and efficient health services than could be achieved independently (www.sialliance.health.nz/)The South Island Regional Health Services Plan 2014-2017 identifies specific actions in relation to children and young people

  • Southern DHB participates in the development of National Clinical Networks coordinated via the Paediatric Society of New Zealand
