- Permanent, full time Senior Nursing opportunity
- Make your mark – champion change in this pivotal position
Here at the Southern DHB, we have our sights firmly set on the needs of our community - with a continuous goal to improve patient centred care, we are on the lookout for someone to inspire, support and embrace change within an environment of continuous transformation. That someone could be you!
We have a rare Senior Nursing leadership opportunity within the Operations team, with a specific focus on Surgical nursing specialities, for an experienced and ambitious nurse to join our team in an Associate Director of Nursing role.
About the Team
Reporting to the Director of Nursing Surgery, Dunedin, this role will see you interfacing with Critical Care, Perioperative and Post Anaesthetic Care teams, particularly Charge Nurses, but in collaborative partnership with Service Managers and Medical and Allied Health professionals to support, coordinate and monitor nursing performance within these key services.
About the Role – what’s in it for me?
Change is afoot, and is certainly a key characteristic of this role – from the ongoing transformation of Critical Care services, to the redevelopment of Perioperative models of care, and most excitingly contributing to the planning for the New Dunedin Hospital opening in 2028. There are many opportunities to be involved in major improvement projects that better serve the current and future needs of our community. These designated services feature at pivotal moments in the patient journey, and it is imperative that flow is seamless across the pre to post operation continuum.
This role has professional, management and leadership accountability for the provision of safe clinical care, workforce planning and implementation of quality improvement strategies within the core services, including but not limited to:
- Operational Management: Coordinating resources to meet identified needs of patients and staff, managing staff and patient flows across departments with acuity.
- Nursing Team Management: Supervision of nursing staff, providing clinical leadership expertise to establish and maintain a high standard of patient focused care within the allocated resources.
- Quality and Risk Management: contributing to risk minimisation activities and service activities, fostering and contributing to a quality improvement culture.
- Education & Evidenced based practice: Role model exemplary nursing practice, act as a link between nursing staff and clinical/educational resources and help navigate transitions into new models of care
Contributing to the success of this role will be your proven leadership capability – with an innate ability to motivate those around you, create a positive environment, to clinically engage and effect change where and when required. You’ll foster a culture of innovation and strategic thinking; you’ll know how to ‘get things done’; you’ll have proven experience in building effective teams and developing direct reports and of high importance is your ability to demonstrate what we call ‘managerial courage’
Our successful candidate will demonstrate significant knowledge and sound experience within the health and disability sector; hold registration with the New Zealand Nursing Council and hold, or be actively working towards, a relevant Masters qualification. Perioperative and/or ICU experience would be an advantage.
