Dunstan Hospital is a 24 bed acute care rural hospital located in Clyde, Central Otago.
We have a 0.6 FTE Senior position to fill
Applicants should be qualified from the New Zealand Rural Hospital training program.
You will join a well-established senior clinical team striving for excellence in rural medicine with an emphasis on collegiality and the adaptability that comes with rural health. We are well supported by specialist services in the Southern DHB and work closely with local GP’s to care for a community of 28,000+ people. Our hospital services a large area of Central Otago including Roxburgh, Alexandra, Cromwell and Wanaka.
Clinical services at Dunstan Hospital include: Acute 24 hour inpatient care, after-hours primary care, rehabilitation and palliative care, 3 bed high dependency unit, on-site radiology (incl. CT), on-site lab, and outpatient specialist clinics. Outpatient treatment services include chemotherapy, day surgery (Mobile Surgical Bus), endoscopy, extensive allied health, and district nursing services.
As a team we take responsibility for the assessment and management of acute patients with a mixture of primary and secondary care. All the seniors are trained in point of care ultrasound and two on the University of Otago teaching faculty. We are also formally involved in the 5th year medical rural teaching programme and involved with day to day teaching of registrars, SHOs through to medical students. Many of the senior doctors facilitate on the varying Rural Hospital Training Modules as well as the simulation RISC courses and CORE courses. A number of doctors work in both GP and rural hospital medicine. This job may offer the opportunity for a combined role with GP in the community.
