Our Emergency Department in Southland Hospital is seeking Health Care Assistants to join us on a fixed-term basis during our busy winter period. The Health Care Assistant role is the ideal way for you to kick start your career in health and we are open to considering full time or part time hours.

About the Role

Our Emergency Department is a busy service and provides care for approximately 38,500 attendances every year. We have a triage area, a rapid assessment area, dedicated resuscitation areas, acute, sub-acute and paediatric cubicles.  Our department carries out all acute care, including full patient resuscitation facilities, management of trauma, fractures, injuries etc. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate in all aspects of the roster including weekend and night shifts.

As Health Care Assistant you will be involved in:

  • Supporting our nurses and other members of the health care team
  • Patient supervision and/or movement
  • Stock reconciliation
  • Ward maintenance

About You

We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who are dynamic, friendly and can demonstrate a high level of initiative. You will be committed to high standards of practice, be well organised and have excellent communication skills.

It is important that candidates are motivated, flexible, have a level of maturity about them and of course plenty of enthusiasm. Experience working with people in a caring capacity is also essential.
