Dunstan Hospital is a 24 bed acute care rural hospital located in Clyde, Central Otago.

 

We have 2 full time Registrar positions for the 2019-2020 academic year,

(4 x 6 month placements), commencing in December 2019.

Applicants should be registrars who are on the RHM training program.

Registrars will join a senior clinical team providing acute care and rural hospital inpatient care at Dunstan. We are well supported by specialist services in the Southern DHB and work closely with local GP’s to care for a community of 28,000 people. Our hospital services a large area of Central Otago including Roxburgh, Alexandra, Cromwell and Wanaka.

 

Clinical services at Dunstan Hospital include: Acute 24 hour 24 bedded inpatient care, rehabilitation and palliative care and a 3 bed high dependency unit. We look after GP afterhours care, have on-site radiology (incl. CT), on-site lab.Outpatient treatment services include specialist clinics, chemotherapy, day surgery (Mobile Surgical Bus), endoscopy, extensive allied health, and district nursing services.

 

As a team we strive to provide a supportive and rewarding learning environment for Registrars, with plenty of opportunities to take responsibility for the assessment and management of acute patients. All the seniors are trained in point of care ultrasound and two on the University of Otago teaching faculty. We also are involved in the 5th year medical rural teaching programme. Many of the senior doctors facilitate on the varying Rural Hospital Training Modules as well as the simulation RISC courses and CORE courses. A number of doctors work in both GP and rural hospital medicine.

 

Dunstan Hospital (COHSL) is in the process of forming more links with primary care as well as becoming a Rural Hub for services. Those registrars hoping to remain in the area and complete their GP training should put that in their applications and we can facilitate those introductions.
