Medical Secretaries – General Surgery Service

Due to a current staff member retiring after an impressive tenure of service, our General Surgery Service is looking for experienced administrators to support the wider General Surgery and Plastics teams based at Dunedin Hospital as a Medical Secretary. This role will provide an opportunity to demonstrate outstanding coordination skills, your ability to work autonomously and use your initiative. This is a demanding role working with a high level of administration tasks and interfacing with a large multidisciplinary team, so if you are looking for your next career challenge, look no further!
About the Role
This position carries a varied workload, working to strict deadlines and fundamental to this position is your ability to uphold confidential patient information. Managing medical staff travel to rural clinics and producing and communicating the on call roster are vital aspects to this essential role. We need someone who can handle having several things on the go at once and can schedule patients for surgery in the medically requested timeframe with a mind for the tight timeframes that patients need their surgery by, and coordination with other services along with juggling tight typing turnarounds to ensure that our patients information is accurate and available
Our ideal candidate will bring a strong customer focus, with a typing speed of at least 70wpm and current medical typing experience or, you may already be an excellent typist who has an interest in the health field. Regardless, accuracy and attention to detail are essential. Utilising your strong interpersonal skills, your ability to prioritise and your Dictaphone typing skills, it is essential that you show us you have an eye for accuracy and your confidence around computer systems.
The salary range is from $43,580 to $51,259 and the commencement step will be based on relevant experience and qualifications (new scale pending).
