Accountant – Fixed Term

About the Role
Southern District Health Board operates from three main locations in the Southern region. We are now seeking an experienced accountant to join our Southland team for six months as soon as possible to undertake a program of work directed at reviewing the operational effectiveness of our finance functions at Southland Hospital and Lakes Hospital.
The key focus for this fixed term position is to review and improve the finance functions through effective planning, process, analysis and reporting and most importantly, partnering with our teams.
To be considered you must have experience working within a complex public sector environment together with a background of audit, preferably with a Big 4 firm. You must also be an experienced people leader, with demonstrated experience taking teams on a journey of improvement and with the ability to view the organization as a whole to achieve the connectivity and flow of processes to enhance overall performance. You should have project management experience and be able to exercise judgment and provide regular reporting through to your key sponsor and stakeholder, our Executive Director Finance, Procurement and Facilities, on progress on the deliverables.
As a motivated self-starter with a keen interest in leading the way in best practice, you are able to drive improvements and develop internal controls and frameworks. Our expectation is that you have 10+ years’ experience (CA qualification), are hands-on and are able to roll your sleeves up, applying your knowledge and experience and role modelling the work yourself. We want someone who is passionate about wanting to make a difference.
