Description

Experienced Clinical Psychologists / Psychologists / Psychotherapists
Cancer Psychosocial Support Services, Southern Blood and Cancer Service

  • 3 x Part Time 0.5FTE positions (20 hours per week)
  • Permanent vacancies
  • District Wide opportunities (Otago, Central Otago & Southland)

Our Cancer Psychological and Social Work Support team at Southern District Health Board is looking for experienced Clinical Psychologists / Psychologists / Psychotherapists to join our multi-disciplinary team on a permanent, part-time basis. We are however open to candidates creating a full time post in conjunction with the Otago (Dunedin) based position if they have the flexibility to undertake travel as necessary to support more than one region.

About the Team/Service
The Southern Blood & Cancer Service psychosocial support team works collaboratively across the Otago & Southland region to provide psychosocial support to patients with a cancer diagnosis who are engaged in cancer treatments as well as providing support to people with a high suspicion of cancer at the front of the pathway with complex psychological and social need. This later focus is part of a Ministry of Health initiative which commenced throughout NZ in 2015.

About the Role – what’s in it for me?
The overall objective of these roles is to provide psychological support with a brief intervention focus for patients with cancer or suspected cancer by delivering evidence based assessment and interventions.

These roles are part of an initiative to improve access to psychological and social support services for adults with cancer. It is a rare and very exciting opportunity to be part of the team that continues to develop the Psychological and Social Support team as per MOH specifications, and guidelines, goals and philosophies of the Southern Cancer Network.

The Psychologists / Psychotherapists will not only work in close collaboration with the Southern Blood & Cancer psycho-social team but will also work closely with other health professionals, organisations and stakeholders, including primary care practitioners and non-government organisations who have a supportive care function locally and regionally.

We are looking to appoint into these roles on a regional basis (Otago, Central Otago and Southland). We are open to candidates holding two of these 0.5FTE positions and creating a full time post but one of the positions will need to be the Otago regional role based in Dunedin. The person will need to have the flexibility to undertake travel as necessary to support both regions.

About You
Candidates should be knowledgeable and experienced in working with complex needs clients and able to demonstrate excellent assessment, formulation, treatment planning and therapy skills.  You should be experienced in working in the health sector, preferably with people with cancer. You will be a confident and effective communicator, bring a flexible approach with excellent organisational skills, be passionate about your work and hold an unwavering belief in people’s resilience in the face of these often-unfavourable life crises. You will also be a strong supportive team player and be proactive in the multidisciplinary team.  You will also be required to travel to see clients in the wider region.

Candidates must have the required professional qualification to be able to be registered and hold an annual practising certificate in the profession of Clinical Psychology / Psychology and/or Psychotherapy and will ideally have a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
