Service Manager – Rural Health

About Us

Here at Southern DHB, we’re up to the challenge of realising our vision of Better Health, Better Lives, Whanau Ora; and to help us achieve this we’re very focused on bringing into our organisation people who display our values of being Kind, Open and Positive, with a sense of Community.

About the Opportunity

This leadership opportunity works across Southland and the Otago regions, including north Otago and Central Otago. This role has a strong strategic, service development and quality improvement focus that will see you working in partnership across the rural health system, to align with our vision and values. You will be responsible for managing the relationships and service contracts with the rural service providers and oversight of Lakes District Hospital operational activity.

No two days in this role will be the same as you will be managing and working with high performing teams within SDHB and the rural Trusts who value patient centred care. Your strong leadership skills will be invaluable to the success and future development of rural healthcare in Otago and Southland. Working in partnership with clinical and other staff, the Service Manager will contribute to strategic and operational management in a way that is consistent with the organisation’s vision and values. You will support the General Manager, Primary Care and Population Health to drive the implementation of the SDHB Primary and Community Strategy taking the lead on various projects as required. There is a reasonable amount of driving around the district so a clean driver licence is essential.

About you

With tertiary qualifications (ideally in Health or Management), and leadership experience in a similar and relevant position elsewhere, your contribution will be valued and appreciated. You can’t do this alone however, so your ability to lead and engage, and your approachability and commitment to success will be evident in the roles you’ve held previously and your aspirations for the future.  There is appetite for change at Southern DHB, and we want you to help shape our future.

About the Location

At the very top of the list of reasons to join us at Southern DHB is the lifestyle. We’re home to the most beautiful landscapes in NZ, if it’s the great outdoors that presses your buttons; this role will allow you to be based in Queenstown.

It’s all here - the opportunity to create a fantastic work / life balance is waiting for you! The Southern district offers the benefits of excellent amenities, first class primary through to tertiary education, minimal traffic and friendly locals, but with the same sporting and cultural activities you’d find anywhere else. Whether it's surfing, kayaking or sailing; skiing, hunting or fishing; theatre, live-music or art – there’s literally something for everyone.

Check out for what the region, and we, can offer you and your whanau.
