Occupational Therapist – Child Development Service (Vera Hayward Centre)

Dunedin Hospital

  • Permanent position, 40 hours per week


The Vera Hayward Centre is based at Dunedin Hospital which is centrally located in Dunedin City. 

The Child Development Service (Vera Hayward Centre) has a permanent  position available for a NZ registered Occupational Therapist with a passion for working with children aged 0-16 years and their families/whanau. This is a newly configured Occupational Therapy position and we are very excited to be able to offer this to an enthusiastic candidate.


About the opportunity

We are a team of experienced Allied health therapists who work with children and their families who live in the Coastal Otago region. We are a child and family focussed service and as such we work in either centre or community settings. We are looking for someone who holds registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand and a current APC and NZ full Drivers Licence.

As Occupational Therapist, you will be working within the Child Development Service as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Therapy team. There would be the opportunity to work with Seating and Wheelchair assessment, along with general developmental assessment and intervention with children under 16 years of age.


About you

Previous experience in Paediatrics and also in Wheelchair/Seating and housing modifications would be preferable. You will need excellent communication skills to enable you to liaise with hospital specialists, children and their families, education services and build strong links within the wider allied health team.

In this role you’ll have the opportunity to use your clinical reasoning skills, excellent time management, communication and problem solving skills in an outpatient clinic or community setting.
