About the opportunity
Consumers are the past, the present and the future of Mental Health Services. Here at Southern DHB we want to ensure our consumers are heard, so we can continue to review and develop the Mental Health Services offered in Southland. To help us do this our Consumer Advisor aims to develop and co-ordinate effective links and networks with relevant consumers, community groups and organisations. We now have a vacancy for a permanent fulltime Consumer Advisor to join our team.

About You 
You'll strive to develop a strong and active consumer voice in the district and support the ongoing development of a Consumer Advisory Group in Southland. You'll provide feedback to the mental health provider arm management team and clinicians and actively encourage and involve consumers in planning groups and projects in the provider arm. You'll also support Southern DHB and the community to become more aware of the issues facing Mental Health consumers.

To be considered for this position you'll need to be a confident communicator with strong verbal and written skills. You'll have an ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with a variety of people and be able to prioritise and organize your work. You will need to be able to cope under pressure and remain calm in difficult situations while having the drive and commitment to make a difference.
