Do you have a positive/can do outlook, a genuine interest and previous experience working with clients with substance use issues?  Then come and join our collaborative and friendly team at the Specialist Addiction Service (SAS), based in the Community Mental health Team at either the Dunstan Hospital Ground in Clyde, or Queenstown. This position covers the central Otago and Wakatipu area, providing addiction clinics at probation offices around the region including Alexandra, Cromwell and Queenstown.


About the Role

As part of a dedicated team you’ll have your own case load of primarily brief intervention clients meaning your days will be busy and varied. In addition to the probation brief intervention work you may pick-up other addiction work particularly when colleagues are on leave. You’ll have regular contact with the Probation Service other DHB Health Services, and NGO’s, so you must be an excellent communicator who is adept at interacting with your clients, colleagues and external organisations, always striving to ensure the best results. This position involves driving to the various towns in the district, providing clinics in other agencies facilities.


About You

You will bring to this role a solid understanding of addiction issues and experience in working with clients with co-existing-problems (CEP) and you’ll be able to demonstrate strength in brief intervention, and documentation making skills. Desirable skills and experience relate to mental health and physical health assessment.

In addition to the addiction specific role this role includes participation in the After Hours Mental Health on-call roster. Experience working in a mental health setting is preferred. It is expected that you will work towards becoming a Duly Authorised officer of the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act (1992).  A Registered Nurse is preferred for this position but applications form other suitably qualified and health professionals will be considered.

You will be a Registered Mental Health Professional (Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, or DAPAANZ registered clinician). It is desirable that you hold relevant post graduate qualifications.
