Position Title: Registrar Positions (Dunstan Hospital)
Location: Otago
Date Posted: 19/06/2020
Application Closing Date: Open
Job #: REGDUNSTAN

Description

We have 2 full time Registrar positions for the 2020-2021 academic year,

(4 x 6 month placements), commencing in December 2020.

Applicants would preferably be registrars who are on the RHM training program.

Dunstan Hospital is a 24 bed acute care rural hospital located in Clyde, Central Otago.

Registrars will join a senior clinical team providing acute care and rural hospital inpatient care. We are well supported by specialist services in the Southern DHB and work closely with local GP’s to care for a community of over 30,000 people. Our hospital services a large area including Roxburgh, Alexandra, Cromwell and Wanaka.

Clinical services at Dunstan Hospital include: Acute 24-hour 24 bed inpatient care, rehabilitation and palliative care, and a 3-bed high dependency unit. We look after primary afterhours care from 6pm, and have on-site radiology (incl. CT) and lab who are on call overnight. In addition are a number of outpatient clinics and community services.

As a team we strive to provide a supportive and rewarding learning environment for Registrars, with plenty of opportunities to take responsibility for the assessment and management of acute patients. All the seniors are trained in point of care ultrasound. A number of seniors are involved in teaching with the University of Otago through the Rural Postgraduate Programme. We also host undergraduate 5th year medical students.

Dunstan Hospital has close links with primary care, with regular liaison meetings and joint CME events. Those registrars hoping to remain in the area and complete their GP training should put that in their applications and we can facilitate those introductions.

Finally, Central Otago offers a nice community to slot into. There are plenty of outdoors activities in the region, not least being some of NZ’s best mountain biking. There is also an increasing array of excellent cafes and eating places.

Please include preference for either Dec 2020 - June 2021 or June 2021 - Dec 2021, and if you’re also applying to Lakes District Hospital (Queenstown) for the alternate 6 months.  Provide contact details for 2 referees.
