About the Role - what is in it for me?
As a Social Worker in this team, you will have sound social work knowledge and skills, be a team player with excellent communication skills and work cohesively as part of the interdisciplinary team. You will be part of the inpatient social work team based on the medical or Surgical Wards at Dunedin Public Hospital. This team is committed to delivering a service of the highest standard. We offer access to regular supervision, professional development and peer support.
You will provide social work practice facilitating safe discharges and providing psychosocial support to patients and their whanau/families on the oncology ward, and ensuring patient safety and risk assessments are carried out. You will also work closely with other Health Professionals and non-governmental organisations.
You should be experienced in working in the health sector, preferably in a medical, surgical or similar area. You should have the ability to work creatively and autonomously and to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team, and be able to communicate easily with a variety of people. You will need to think on your feet and remain calm under pressure.
You must hold a Professional Social Worker qualification (as per Social Worker Registration Board schedules for registration eligibility i.e. Bachelor’s degree equivalent) and be registered and hold a current Annual Practicing Certificate with Social Work Registration Board (SWRB) within 3 months of appointment. A current full driver’s licence is required.
