In this role you’ll be exposed to a wide and varied pathology and supported by strong links with the tertiary providers throughout New Zealand.

Our roles are split allowing you to provide a comprehensive general Paediatric service and a level two Neonatal service supporting up to 1600 deliveries per annum.  Our team also provides Rural clinics to be provided in Gore and Queenstown (one of New Zealand’s major tourist destinations, which is a comfortable 2 hour drive from Invercargill).

Southland Hospital Children’s Health Service is part of the Southern District Health Board District Service and has a close working relationship with colleagues at Dunedin Hospital and in particular the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which is the closest tertiary provider and referral centre.  The Paediatric Department is actively involved in teaching, as we are affiliated with the Dunedin School of Medicine and actively support 5th and 6th year students within our department, and our Paediatricians providing Senior Lecturer roles to the School of Medicine.

Whether you’re a new Consultant or someone with many years of Specialty Paediatrics under your belt, you will find this role, team and department the perfect place to feel valued.  We are currently expanding our team, by an additional specialist so you will be joining a dedicated team of four other General Paediatricians with sub-speciality interests and share a 1:5 on call roster.  Our team is ably supported by Senior House Officers, Registrars and an experienced, stable nursing staff.

It’s really important to us that you’re a Specialist who believes that the patient is at the centre of all that you do, actively including family and whanau as a standard part of your practice. Your communication skills, with patients and your colleagues will be second to none and your ability to contribute in a positive team environment will be essential.  You must have completed your specialist training and be eligible for vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand.  The position offers an attractive remuneration package, relocation assistance and CME allowance.

Located in the lower South Island, the Southland region is home to two of New Zealand’s national parks offering opportunities for tramping, internationally acclaimed fishing and easy access to four excellent ski fields. Recognised as an ideal place to raise a family, Invercargill is a small city offering easy access to outstanding leisure pursuits and a caring, safe community. We have superb sporting facilities such as the indoor velodrome and sporting complex, excellent schools and an enterprising, innovative tertiary education provider, where free fees exist and it’s all just a stone’s throw away from wherever you are.
