About the Role / About You

Are you a confident and effective communicator, truly passionate about your work and hold an unwavering belief in people’s recovery?

We have available, a permanent full time role based at Southland Hospital, for a Registered Nurse working within our district wide mobile Youth Forensic service. You will provide an effective, efficient service for youth who are engaged in offending behaviours within the juvenile justice system and who are also experiencing emotional and/or mental health disorders.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Advocate for forensic youth, focusing on their optimum care and resilience
  • Undertake a comprehensive nursing assessment and provide treatment advice alongside consultation with the multidisciplinary youth forensic team
  • Provide referral of the youth for any potentially unmet need identified
  • Support the youth court processes locally and in other rural centres to ensure effective liaison and developed professional relationships across the district

There is a degree of working autonomously with this role, but you must also to be an active team member within the Youth Forensic Speciality Team based in Dunedin, alongside providing consultation support to the Child, Adolescent and Family Service Team based on the Southland site (where this role sits). A current full drivers’ licence is required, as a component of the position is working in the community covering required need in Queenstown and other rural areas locally.

We provide good orientation to our roles and will support your on-going professional development needs.

So, if you want to make a difference, possess a positive attitude, a strong sense of self-awareness and personal resilience, and relish working in the field of Youth Forensics, then we encourage you to apply.

You must be a Registered Nurse, with a current APC – and have experience in working within a mental health sector with children, adolescents and their families.
