Health Care Assistant-Immunisation Team: Te Punaka Oraka

Population Health – Te Punaka Oraka are looking for a Health Care Assistant to join our Immunisation Team based in Dunedin to support the Measles Campaign.You will provide both clinical and administration support to our nursing staff. In this role you will be working closely as part of a wider team delivering a very important health service, through the provision of vaccination programmes to the Maori and Pacific community with a focus on youth. The role involves working directly with the team, under the direction and delegation of the Registered Nurse. This role will mostly be Mon – Fri but does require flexibility with some weekend work required which will be negotiated with the successful candidate.



As Health Care Assistant you will be involved in:

  • Southern 15-30 years He Waka Eke Noa – Measles Campaign
  • Supporting our nurses and other members of the health care team to deliver immunisation programmes in the community and local school-based programmes.
  • Providing support to the local Immunisation Coordinators.
  • Assistance of transportation of Vaccinations and Cold Chain.
  • Administration and data entry.
  • Stock reconciliation.


About You

We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who are well connected with Maori and Pasifika youth. Being fluent in Te Reo or a Pacific language would be beneficial. You will be friendly, committed to high standards of practice, have excellent communication skills, be computer literate and demonstrate a high level of initiative.

This role will get you out and about in the community, working closely with tamariki and their whanau, and other primary healthcare provider.

It is important that candidates are team players with strong organisational and time management skills, you will be adaptable, open to change and able to relate well to people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.


While a working knowledge of MedTech evolution, The National Immunisation Register or Immunisation is an advantage it is not essential as training will be provided.
