Consultant Psychiatrist

  • Community Alcohol Drug Service
  • Dunedin
  • Permanent or Fixed Term

Are you looking to spend more time with your family, looking to find that elusive work life balance or simply looking for an adventure?  If so, we’d like to talk with you

You will take a lead in developing and providing alcohol and drug services, primarily in Otago based in Dunedin but also across the Southern District Health Board catchment..  Our services include opioid substitution treatment (specialist prescribing and GPA) as well as general alcohol and drug interventions

An outstanding team player and capable leader, you will be able to support and influence the multi-disciplinary team you will be a part of.  You will be enthusiastic about working with people with alcohol and drug problems and motivated about supporting and implementing initiatives such as Raise Hope and Rising to the Challenge, the local and national strategic documents for mental health.

You will be enthusiastic about teaching and passing your knowledge to junior members of staff as Southern DHB is affiliated with the Otago Medical School and Dunedin Hospital provides training to Registrars from the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

Dunedin is a great little city with a big town feel and well-known for its Southern Hospitality, with some of New Zealand’s most famous scenery and holiday spots on your doorstep (Queenstown, Wanaka, Milford Sound, Stewart Island, to name but a few). The Southern region offers affordable living, great schools, and a relaxed way of life with no traffic jams in sight.

You must be able to qualify as a consultant psychiatrist with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Candidates from outside of NZ are encouraged to apply and our experienced Recruitment Advisors are happy to answer your questions about coming to live and work with Southern DHB.
