You will have a keen interest in the health and wellbeing of the children living within our community and in return you will work alongside a dedicated group of Paediatricians and other Child Health professionals.
You will be exposed to a wide and varied pathology and supported by strong links with the tertiary providers throughout New Zealand. The role is split and is to provide a comprehensive general Paediatric service and a level two Neonatal service supporting up to 1600 deliveries per annum.
Southland Hospital Children’s Health Service is part of the Southern District Health Board District Service and has a close working relationship with colleagues at Dunedin Hospital and in particular the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which is the closest tertiary provider and referral centre. The Paediatric Department is actively involved in teaching. It is affiliated to the Dunedin School of Medicine and actively supports 5th and 6th year students within the department, with Paediatricians providing Senior Lecturer roles to the School of Medicine
Located in the lower South Island, Southland offers a wide range of recreational activities. It is home to two of New Zealand’s national parks offering opportunities for tramping, internationally acclaimed fishing, hunting, climbing and a wide range of outdoor pursuits. You have an abundance of choice for skiing with four ski fields within easy driving distance. Invercargill is a family friendly city with excellent educational and sporting facilities.
As a minimum requirement, you will have a minimum of 2 years post graduate medical experience and also some experience working in a Child Health role.
