Here at Southern DHB, we’re undergoing significant transformation, as we work towards the goal of becoming a clinically and financially sustainable organisation, supported by our communities.  We’re working very hard on clinical, quality, and business improvement, strengthened financial performance and prioritising the development of our organisational culture through extensive consultation with staff and our communities – with the aim of making Southern DHB not only a great place to work, but to become an employer of choice where our staff are valued and empowered and we can truly make a difference as we work towards a more patient-centred system.

To support the above, a revised upper level structure is being embedded, to better align the goals and aims of the organisation.  We’re creating an invigorated and renewed leadership group, re-aligning decision making and accountability, providing clarity and appropriate authority, and a more even balance of responsibilities across the Southern district.

In order to achieve this, we’re committed to putting the right people in place to work towards achieving our targets, and a brilliant opportunity exists to lead our Surgical and Radiology service as General Manager.  This role works in partnership with the Medical Director, and our Operational and Professional Leadership Team, and reports to the newly created position of Executive Director Specialist Services (also currently being advertised).

Breathing life into the position description are key descriptors such as strategic, leading, operational, managing, contemporary, high quality, networking, district wide perspective and placing decision making processes close to where care happens.  Networking and building strong clinical partnerships are key to moving forward, and will be crucial for an outcome that is an efficient, effective and safe service, with the added challenge of delivering this within the allocated resources of time, people and money.  There is significant unmet need and one of the key responsibilities in this role will be to ensure that we extract the best value out of the resources we are able to invest in these crucial services and to contribute to meeting the needs of the people of the Southern District.
