Our Older People’s Health Service is pleased to be accepting applications for a full time Consultant Geriatrician to work at Dunedin hospital.
The Service provides a combination of inpatient, outpatient and Day Hospital services to clients in both the Greater Dunedin and Otago/Southland area. Using a team approach, we provide comprehensive services for people with age-related health problems (eg stroke, fractured neck of femur, delirium and cognitive impairment). We maintain a close liaison with all other hospital and community services with a particular emphasis on Mental Health Services for Older People, Needs Assessment and Service Coordination service and Orthopaedics.
This age-related AT&R services is not only integrated in terms of service-delivery, but is also located in one hospital and is adjacent to all other hospital specialities serving the same catchment. This provides opportunities for functional integration with other Dunedin Hospital services, especially acute medical and surgical services.
The objective is to enable patients to achieve the highest possible level of independence (i.e. remain in community as long as possible) so that the emphasis is on:
- Promoting ‘wellness’, independence and participation
- Close liaison with community services
- Comprehensive discharge planning
Close links are maintained with the University of Otago’s School of Medicine which supports the education of a wide range of health professionals.
Our current team consists of the clinical leader along with four other senior medical staff, one of whom is jointly employed by the University of Otago, 3 Registrars and 3 House Officers. We are looking for someone to join us who is excited about developing a vision for the future of the Service. To enjoy this role you’ll need to have an enthusiasm for teaching, be committed to quality service delivery and development, and be able to work effectively as a senior clinician within a multidisciplinary team.
