Mental Health Assistants – Ward 9A – Forensic Inpatients

Wakari Hospital (Dunedin)


  • 1x 0.8 (32 hours per week), permanent position
  • 1x 0.6 (24 hours per week), permanent position
  • 1x 0.6 (24 hours per week), fixed term ending 31/12/17
  • 1x 1 FTE (40 hours per week), fixed term ending 31/12/17


We are looking for a Mental Health Assistants to support and assist our nursing and allied health staff to ensure an effective and efficient service on this Ward within the Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service.


You’ll need a positive attitude and very good communication skills, be able to take direction and work well as part of team.  Our Mental Health Assistant staff can be asked to work a variety of shifts over seven days; mornings (730am start), afternoons (3pm start) and nights (1115pm start)


Our ideal applicant will be confident in providing support and assisting patients; be motivated, display initiative, be patient focussed at all times and be able to adapt to a changing, and at time challenging, environment.  A component of this role is working in the Support Centre. The Support centre operates and oversees the environmental and physical safety/security of Ward 9A and to a lesser extent other wards on the Wakari site.
