With extensive links to the Dunedin School of Medicine, Medical Registrars at Dunedin Hospital enjoy the best of the clinical and academic worlds.   Dunedin Hospital Medical Registrars can expect to work closely with number of dedicated and training focused Consultants who are employed by both the Dunedin School of Medicine as well as the DHB and so opportunities to link in with those at the forefront of research and / or teaching are abound.

With an extensive basic training programme that is designed to provide the best examination support, our track record for pass rates in the FRACP is exceptional. Support provided includes access to the Dunedin written and clinical courses as well as regular study groups, case preparation and Saturday morning clinical sessions.  Basic Physician training is run by the Dunedin School of Medicine, as are the MCQ sessions for FRACP.

Advanced trainees are welcomed as vital members of the team and provided with great opportunities, including research, to further their experiences and enhance their preparation in becoming vocationally registered.

Regular teaching opportunities include the Medicine Grand Round, sub-specialty Grand Rounds, Journal Clubs, X-ray meetings, CCU teaching and Clinical Audit Meetings.  Regular opportunities also exist for those interested in teaching by way of sessions with medical students.

RACP accredited runs are available in the following areas to ensure opportunities for learning are wide and varied:

  • Internal Medicine
  • Cardiology (includes one Fellow position)
  • Renal
  • Endocrinology
  • Oncology
  • Respiratory
  • Haematology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Rheumatology
  • Older Peoples Health
  • Neurology
  • ICU

Whether you are training towards a career as a Physician or wanting to move into General Practice or Rural Hospital Medicine, this role will provide you with what you need.   To be eligible to apply for this role, you must possess a keen interest in the area of General Medicine and have a minimum of 2 years post graduate medical experience.   Advanced Trainees must have passed the FRACP and also must be considered by the RACP as having advanced into this category of training.
