Occupational Therapist – Inpatient Mental Health Unit

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our energetic, strong multi-disciplinary team, located in a 16 bed inpatient facility that is modern, warm and low-rise.
Our Inpatient Mental Health Unit provides comprehensive assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and monitoring of clients identified as having moderate to severe mental health problems. Team members work closely with consumers/family/whanau and community groups in a supportive manner. The Occupational Therapist will take a holistic approach with clients while in the ward and possibly upon discharge where short term follow up and support is required. It is also expected that there will close liaison with the Community Mental Health Teams.
To be considered for this position you’ll be a problem solver and work hard to empower the client to reach their optimal level of function. Your assessment, networking and team participation skills will be of the highest calibre, and you’ll be a strong patient advocate. This role will suit someone who enjoys the variety of opportunities offered, and who can meet the challenges inherent in working actively and co-operatively within a multidisciplinary service team, liaising as appropriate with other Allied Health Professionals, Nurses and Medical staff, in the acute inpatient environment.
You’ll also need to possess those essential qualities of being able to act calmly and professionally in a crisis, being a natural communicator, able to problem solve and advocate for the service use. Experience in a mental health setting is desirable, however we will consider new graduates with a strong interest in acute Mental Health.
To be considered, you must be a New Zealand Registered Occupational Therapist, hold a current practising certificate and a full NZ driver license.
