You will be looking to build on the experiences you already have in your quest to become an Anaesthetist and so will already have some experience in this specialty as a Registrar. In return we can offer you excellent access to the senior team and to unrivalled opportunities to experience many of the varied presentations to the hospital - ensuring an enviable broad skill base that you'll put to excellent use in your burgeoning career. As a member of a close team, you will provide elective and emergency anaesthesia service to Southland Hospital as well as acute pain management to inpatients after surgery or trauma, and during labour.
You won't find yourself out in the cold at Southland Hospital - with our close-knit small team structure, our RMO's spend more time with Senior staff than in the wilderness of a larger DHB. When you're not skiing, snow boarding, tramping, surfing, kayaking or touring wineries, you'll be working out of our modern Hospital and with 24/7 access to the library, weekly teaching and Grand Rounds, journal clubs and regular RMO forums you'll be continually supported in your development.
As a minimum requirement, you will have a minimum of 2 years post graduate medical experience and also some experience as an Anaesthesia Registrar.
Please note - important information for overseas graduates who are applying
On 1 November 2017 The Medical Council of New Zealand (the Council) introduced a new method of primary source verification using the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates’ Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (ECFMG’s EPIC) service.
Please visit the NZMC website for more details about these changes.
