At Southland Hospital you will be part of a dedicated team of eight Registrars with the opportunity to work across a range of surgery specialties, such as General Surgery, Urology, Breast and Colorectal.  There may also be the opportunity for a 6-12 month Urology attachment for successful applicants interested in pursuing this field. You will participate in the Consultant-led acute service roster, and be able to access support 24/7 from your SMOs. 


Southland Hospital is a modern facility providing healthcare to a large geographical area, ensuring your exposure to a wide variety of work.  The small, close-knit team structure will ensure you are continually supported in your development through a high level of Surgical and Urology Consultant contact and supervision, 24/7 access to the library, weekly teaching and Grand Rounds, journal clubs and regular RMO forums.  In short, we offer you an excellent opportunity to expand your knowledge and advance your technical skills in General Surgery and Urology. Registrars are well supported by the District Health Board in attending courses and meetings relevant to their career goals. The department is also very supportive of those Registrars who are wishing to pursue Surgical Training.

We require applicants with a minimum of 2 years post graduate experience and a keen interest in providing acute and elective surgical care to our community.
