The Ophthalmology Service at Dunedin and Southland Hospitals, Southern DHB, is looking for an enthusiastic Orthoptist to join our team on a permanent basis. Our service embraces a multi-disciplinary team based approach to provide optimal patient care and the orthoptist’s role is an integral component of this team. 

The Orthoptist role involves a wide range of orthoptic investigations, including paediatric/adult strabismus and ocular motility disorders.  Whilst you will be based primarily at Dunedin hospital, this role includes providing regular Orthoptic services at both the Dunedin and Invercargill Hospitals, with travel being provided.

Dunedin is a city known for their southern hospitality and having some of New Zealand’s most famous scenery and holiday spots on its doorstep (Queenstown, Wanaka, Milford Sound, Stewart Island to name a few).  You can enjoy a diverse range of leisure activities from skiing to trout fishing, surfing, hiking or mountain biking just a stones throw from your door. Dunedin has an abundance of amenities, educational (primary through tertiary) facilities, arts scene and cultural life. 

You will be working in a very busy environment liaising with relevant health care professionals, clients and whanau, with a high standard of interpersonal and communication being essential along with sound time management.  This position is suitable for an experienced orthoptist with current expertise in paediatric and adult orthoptic assessment, treatment techniques and protocols essential.

The person we are looking for will demonstrate a drive for achieving excellence through the application of evidence-based clinical practice and expertise and will thrive working in a busy environment. 

You will be working autonomously, as well as collaborating and consulting with the other members of the ophthalmology team to fulfil our patient focused team oriented approach.
