Our Forensic and Intellectual Disabilities Services is accepting applications for a Consultant Psychiatrist. This role is 0.8FTE Forensics and 0.2FTE Intellectual Disabilities. This role is currently a full time permanent role, however, we welcome expressions of interest from candidates looking for a part time role or fixed term position. Our Forensic team is one of only two regional services in the South Island and includes a secure 13 bed inpatient ward, community team and prison and court liaison service offering a developing level of specialisation and expertise in your chosen field. The service offers a full range of criminal forensic psychiatric services and there is flexibility to work in your preferred areas of the service. The ID forensic service again is one of two regional service in South Island with 12 bed medium secure unit (with both forensic and dual diagnosis clients). Also a  4 bed step down rehabilitation unit and community team (only forensic ID)


You will be expected to be on the service-wide on-call roster (supporting the on-call registrar). With our strong links to the Otago Medical School you will be able to enjoy teaching medical students and registrars. Opportunities to be appointed as a Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Psychological Medicine also exist.


To be successful in this role you’ll need to be committed to quality service delivery and development and able to work effectively as a senior clinician within a multidisciplinary team. It is essential that you are eligible for registration with the NZ Medical Council to practice as a Psychiatrist.
