Description

Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

  • Womens’ Health Services
  • Southland Hospital, Invercargill New Zealand
  • Permanent Full time

Southland Hospital is a modern secondary level facility, with first class clinical support facilities and excellent links to our closest tertiary centre in Dunedin.

There are approximately 1400 births per year at Southland Hospital and a further 200 in the rural areas. The department consists of a 14 room maternity unit with 4 birthing rooms, a level two 5 cot neonatal unit and a dedicated Women’s Health Unit. The service is supported by a team of experienced midwives, obstetrics, gynaecology and colposcopy nurses.

This role is primarily based in Invercargill with some travel across the Southern District being expected. Participation is expected in the on call roster, routine obstetrics, routine gynaecology and colposcopy clinics including some outreach clinics. We would be keen to hear from a wide range of applicants from new graduates to those with an interest in clinical leadership, complex obstetrics or Urogynaecology.

The department is affiliated to the Dunedin School of Medicine University of Otago and has a strong focus on educational development with daily obstetric handover and weekly teaching sessions and it has recently achieved a four year accreditation for O&G training by RANZCOG.

Invercargill is the southern-most city in New Zealand’s South Island and is renowned for its friendly and unhurried pace of life and strong sense of community. There are abundant sports and other amenities, educational (primary through tertiary) facilities, as well as a vibrant arts and cultural scene. Close by are national parks and summer and winter playgrounds that are part of Queenstown and Central Otago.

Applicants must have completed, or be about to complete their specialist training and be eligible for vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand.  The position offers an attractive remuneration package, relocation assistance and CME allowance.
