Intake Worker/ Mental Health Professional Child, Adolescent and Family Service (CAFS)
- Permanent, full-time
- Really make a difference
- Safe, friendly and affordable lifestyle
At the very top of the list of reasons to join us at Southern DHB, is the LIFESTYLE that the Southern region offers. It’s all here - the opportunity to create a fantastic work/life balance is available right here, right now.
Getting around Invercargill couldn’t be easier, there’s no traffic jams or long commutes, meaning you’ll be to and from work in no time, leaving you with more time to spend on the things that matter most to you.
You can be in Christchurch within an hour, with regular flights scheduled to and from the airport, making Invercargill even more accessible.
The cost of living in Southland means you’re able to enjoy excellent amenities, schooling, housing, great food and wine (think Oysters, think Venison, think Central Otago wines), access to the best skiing, fishing, and more.
We’re home to the most beautiful landscapes in NZ, if it’s the great outdoors that presses your buttons; and we’re within easy reach of the likes of Queenstown if its adrenalin you seek.
For those with children, there is plenty for them to get involved with too! With loads of after school clubs and activity centers’ to keep them occupied.

About the role
We are looking for a qualified and experienced Intake Worker/ Mental Health Professional to fill this key role with a focus on intake, which serves as a vital first point of contact with the CAFS team. This role primarily involves receiving new referrals, clarifying these and gathering further information when required, then conducting the intake assessment sessions with consumers and family/whanau. Depending on the requirements of the department you may also be required to carry a small caseload as and when required.
You must be Mental Health experienced, NZ registered, and hold a current APC. The role would suit Registered Nurses and Social Workers but consideration can be given to Occupational Therapists so don’t let that deter you. You will need post graduate experience working with children, adolescents and their families in the mental health sector.
It is essential you have working knowledge of the CAPA and recovery model and are able to put the principles into practice.
Joining our multi-disciplinary team you’ll bring your broad based generic caseload experience with excellent assessment and intervention skills, along with an ability to work under pressure as a team player committed to excellence in service delivery. We offer ongoing tailored professional development specific to our Mental Health team, who are professional, dedicated and well-connected throughout the New Zealand mental health network.
Above everything else, bring your passion and your unwavering belief in people’s recovery. Your career can only benefit from joining us.
