Professional Leader – Occupational Therapy (3 month Fixed Term/Secondment)

We are looking for someone for the role of Occupational Therapy Professional Leader for a fixed term. This is available as a secondment by negotiation with an existing staff member’s service area. This temporary post provides an opportunity to extend your leadership skills and how they can be used within the Occupational Therapy profession across the district. A permanent position will be externally advertised during the fixed term period.
This leadership role has been designed to ensure safe and comprehensive delivery of contemporary high quality health and disability services within Southern District Health Board. To achieve this you will facilitate professional leadership with Occupational Therapy clinicians from a district wide perspective.
You will also provide advice to Directors of Allied Health (DAHs) and clinical management partners. You will foster excellence in quality practice standards and professional conduct. You will promote development of Occupational Therapists and assistants, advising on the best use of allocated resources whilst promoting efficiency, productivity and patient safety.
As a professional leader (Fixed term) you’ll be responsible for the advising and consulting with the DAHs and Professional Development Facilitator on professional specific workforce development, skill mix and career pathways in order to build a sustainable future workforce. In conjunction with expert and experienced practitioners you will maximise the utilisation of inter-professional ways of working. An important part of this position is your involvement in overseeing the credentialing of the Occupational Therapy workforce.
You’ll work alongside the DAHs, and Professional Development Facilitator to ensure professional development leave and funding are consistent and transparent for your profession across all Directorates.
You’ll be responsible for the ongoing development of relationships with tertiary education providers as well as district, regional and national links for your profession.
You will be a self-motivated person with effective communication skills to a wide range of stakeholders. You will have commitment to and enthusiasm for your profession, excellent group facilitation skills and a history of a collaborative team approach.
You must be a New Zealand registered Occupational Therapist and a member of your national professional body. It is essential that you have advanced practitioner level experience. It is expected that your remaining FTE will include clinical practice. This will be negotiated with any successful candidate.
This position will involve some travel throughout the District it is therefore essential that you have a full, clean driver’s license.
