Exciting opportunity!

The Dunedin Dialysis Unit is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse to join their small close knit team on a permanent part time basis.  The Dialysis Unit supports Renal Replacement Therapy (Dialysis) from Waitaki to the Bluff and Central Otago and encompasses Acute and Home Haemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, and Plasma Exchange.  The unit’s main focus is to provide home based training, support in peritoneal and haemodialysis, as well as supervision and support for community based Enrolled Nurses.


If you are a looking for a challenging role in a busy and dynamic service, where you support the patient, their family / whanau through their entire journey, then this maybe the role for you!  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are paramount as the education of patients and their families with regards to their care and condition management, the teaching of staff and liaising with the MDT - in the hospital and the community - are fundamental aspects of this role. 


The rostered hours of work are Monday to Saturday. There is the requirement to participate in an on call roster that runs 24/7 (for the provision of telephone support as well as acute afterhours care for dialysis and plasma exchange therapy as required); the provision of home visits district wide and renal nurse clinics outside of Dunedin.


To be successful you will have the ability to work in a high output area as a team player, can use your initiative and have the ability and confidence to practice autonomously as well as collaboratively, with proven computer literacy skills.  You will have demonstrated experience in quality processes with a commitment to best practice.


The service encompasses a wide geographical area and to fulfil this role travel by road and in light aircraft is required. Therefore the availability to be away from home overnight and being comfortable with flying in small aircraft are essential. A full driver’s licence, with a good record, is a must.
