- Permanent, 1 FTE (40 Hours per week)
- Ophthalmology roles just don’t get much better than this.
- You’ll come for the variety, but you’ll stay for the team and the Southern lifestyle.
If you’re a skilled Ophthalmologist who’s ready for a lifestyle change and new career opportunities, then it’s time you looked South.
So if we said you could upskill quickly, get loads of interesting cases to work on with a lovely team, and do it in a lively and affordable little city, would that get you thinking more?
Welcome to Southern DHB, or more specifically, Southland Hospital. Our secondary Hospital proudly provides top-quality healthcare to a population of 105,000 in the lower South Island; this provides us with some unique challenges, but also ensures that there is an enormous scope for the variety in the work available to a talented professional like you. Being at the bottom of the country you would probably expect us to have a small, ancient facilities, but we are happy to brag that Southland Hospital, rebuilt in 2004, is a state-of-the-art facility that provides healthcare with the latest in PACS digital radiology, MRI, CT and iSOFT patient management system.
If you enjoy working with children, take note, because paediatrics is a major focus of this role. Our ideal candidate will not only be an excellent general Ophthalmologist but also hold the knowledge and the necessary disposition to be involved in facilitating fantastic eye clinics for children, a child-friendly space where they – and their parents – can feel comfortable and cared for. Small but perfectly formed, some have said that our Ophthalmology Service is the best run in the country, part of this is because we have a culture where staff are included, valued and respected for their expertise. Our Southland based Ophthalmology team has two permanent consultants and our Clinical Director joins us clinically on a fortnightly basis.
As our DHB moves further down the path of exploring different models of care, you will be a person who embraces change, and as an outstanding team player and capable leader, you'll have the energy to make a positive difference with both patients and colleagues alike with the opportunity to take a leading role in maintaining and enhancing our Ophthalmology service, while taking the initiative in developing new ones.
Invercargill gives you everything you’d want from a city hospital, like interesting work and a range of specialties, but there’s a small hospital feel. It’s a really friendly, supportive community – and you’ll find that in the wider community, too. Invercargill is a lovely city for families, with affordable housing and big flat sections, plus so little traffic that there’s really no ‘rush hour’. And you’ll get free onsite parking.
If all that sounds good, there’s no better time – or place – to make the next move in your career. You’ll get a warm Southern welcome, and we might be biased, but we don’t think there’s a better place in New Zealand.
Closing Date: Open
Candidates please note that screening of applications will be ongoing throughout this advertising period and our advertising will be removed from the Southern DHB website in the event of the role being filled.
