Consultant Ophthalmologist

    We have an opportunity for a Consultant Ophthalmologist to live and work in a part of the world renowned for its lifestyle and work/life balance. 

This is an exciting time for Ophthalmology service delivery, with the models of care being reviewed to meet demand and innovative models of care being explored.  This role is primarily based in Dunedin but some travel across the Southern District is expected. In this role you will participate in routine ophthalmology clinics, theatre and some outreach clinics and the on call roster.

Ideally we would like an Ophthalmologist with experience and an interest in Paediatric Ophthalmology to join our team.

Dunedin Hospital is a 350 bed tertiary hospital with close links to the University of Otago, one of New Zealand’s leading research Institutes. Here you’ll need to be enthusiastic about teaching and passing your knowledge to junior members of staff, as Southern DHB is affiliated with the Otago Medical School, we provide training to Registrars from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.

Dunedin itself is a vibrant University city, with a big town feel and is well-known for its Southern Hospitality, providing you with a great place to live and work. The surrounding districts include Fiordland and Central Otago and these beautiful places are easily accessible from Dunedin The Dunedin and Otago lifestyle offers a range of outdoor recreation opportunities and cultural activities that offer something for everyone. The Southern region offers affordable living, great schools, and a relaxed way of life with no traffic jams in sight.

You must have completed your specialist training and be eligible or already hold vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Candidates from outside of NZ are encouraged to apply and we are happy to answer your questions about coming to live and work with Southern DHB.
