Cancer Nurse Coordinator (Rural)

  • Permanent vacancy
  • Full-time position (40 hours per week)

As part of a nationwide commitment to improving cancer services, the Cancer Nurse Coordinator will work within the DHB, utilising the nationwide networks in place, to improve the care and support provided to patients through the course of their cancer treatment.  This role will have the principle focus on improving the links between primary, secondary and tertiary health care while working alongside patients with high health needs that need support navigating the complex health system. The Rural Cancer Nurse Coordinator looks at all the above through a “rural lens” to improve the quality of the cancer journey for rural patients.

Your ability to build successful working relationships with a range of people from diverse backgrounds will be supported by your excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  The successful applicant will have advance knowledge of the relevant legislation and standards which govern nursing and health care practice in New Zealand, including the Treaty of Waitangi and NZ Cancer Control Strategy. The successful candidate needs to have an understanding of Primary Health Care and preferably some community nursing experience. Another essential aspect will be the ability to be able to function collaboratively and autonomously, using advanced skills and judgement.

The Cancer Nurse Coordinator will hold a current APC and will be working towards a relevant postgraduate (Level 8) qualification and have validated clinical expertise and leadership in the speciality area of cancer care.   A current NZ drivers licence is essential. We are flexible about the base locality for the successful candidate, it is more important that we get the right person for this role.
