Southern DHB is currently seeking applications for a Senior House Officer (PGY3+) interested in joining the team at Dunedin Hospital in August 2019.

Dunedin Hospital is a tertiary level hospital of 400 beds located in central Dunedin, New Zealand. The Hospital services the city of Dunedin and the wider Otago region.


Where do I fit?

You will have a keen interest in working as part of a close team and developing key skills by rotating through a range of runs, including:

  • ED (3 or 6 month runs available)
  • General Medicine
  • General Surgery
  • Cardiology
  • Orthopaedics
  • Older Peoples Health
  • ENT
  • Oncology
  • Ophthalmology / Neurology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Haematology
  • Rehabilitation
  • Respiratory
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Paediatrics
  • Urology
  • Various psychiatry runs
  • Renal
  • O&G
  • And of course…. Rotator roles

  • Paediatrics

House Officer runs in Southern DHB are three months duration and commence each quarter (November/February/May/August), with the exception of O&G and Paediatrics which offer six month runs.

Applicants are asked to rank those runs they are interested in working in in their application.

What do I need?

Whether you have decided on your career and determined that you need more subspecialty experience to get where you are going, or if you are still undecided but want exposure to more generalist roles, we have what you need.

We are interested in hearing from RMOs with a minimum of one years’ post qualification experience.

You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand, and be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.  You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council’s website at
