Registered Nurse – Ward 4A (General Surgery)

Dunedin Hospital’s General Surgery Ward is now accepting applications from Registered Nurses looking to join a hardworking and supportive team on a permanent basis.
Strongly supported by a tight knit team under the careful direction of the Charge Nurse Manager, you will enjoy working in a unit that strives for excellence in clinical services and exemplifies the team based model of care Ward 4A is a 24 bed General Surgery ward, with an additional six bed High Dependency Unit attached. Ward 4A specializes in upper & lower GI and colorectal Surgery and provides for both elective and acute surgical admissions.
The work on this ward is varied and interesting and you will have many opportunities to develop professionally. Capability development is a high priority for us – there is ample opportunity for professional development. Further, learning opportunities present themselves on the ward every day, proactive and engaged learners wanting to take full advantage of the opportunities in the environment will have ample opportunity to enhance their repertoire of skills. Our team are dedicated, professional and on hand to provide you with mentorship and support.
We’re looking for someone who’s experienced and organised, friendly and calm, able to work independently and at the same time genuinely interested in the best outcome for both patient and team.You will bring excellent assessment skills and a passion and focus for working with families/whanau to provide a high standard of care. You will be an exceptional team player who has strong communication skills and the ability to be flexible with work shifts. Additionally, you will naturally embody the Southern DHB values of Kind (Manaakitanga), Open (Pono), Positive (Whaiwhakaaro) and Community (Whanaungatanga) through your interactions with patients and colleagues.
- Current registration with the New Zealand Nursing Council and a current APC, with the right to work in New Zealand.
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other professionals.
- Excellent time management, interpersonal and organisational skills
- The ability to be adaptable, flexible and solution focused.
- Previous Surgical experience is essential, and experience in HDU would certainly be advantageous.
