Southern District Health Board (Southern DHB) exists to support everyone across our district to live well, and access the right care when they need it, by delivering high quality, patient-centred and equitable health services to our diverse communities.

 

We are responsible for planning, funding and providing health and disability services to a population of over 315,000 located South of the Waitaki River. Our catchment area encompasses Invercargill City, Queenstown - Lakes District, Gore, rural Southland, Clutha, Central Otago, Maniototo, Waitaki District and Dunedin City. This means Southern DHB serves the largest geographic region of all New Zealand's health boards.

 

About the Team

The Waitaki Community Mental Health Service is Multi-Disciplinary Team that services the North Otago District, providing support to Child and Youth, Alcohol and Drug, Adult and Elderly services. It also provides an after-hours on call crisis service.

 

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Professional to work within a well-established, experienced team that works collaboratively within a rural community.

 

You will have experience of working with patients with mental illness in a community setting or have an interest in developing this in a community setting. This is a mental health role which combines assessment and treatment for people experiencing both acute and longstanding psychological conditions and issues. 

 

As a Mental Health Professional you will be an integral and valued member of the multidisciplinary team responsible for the provision of patient-centred interventions.

 

The successful applicant will be required to work as a Duly Authorised Officer under the Mental Health Act (training provided if necessary) and participate on the after-hours on-call roster for the Waitaki Community Mental Health Team.

 

About you

You will be a motivated individual, keen to make a difference and who thrives in a busy and diverse working environment. You will possess excellent communication and team working skills and will be able to work well under pressure and stressful situations.

 

We want a like-minded individual, to join our small multi-disciplinary team of Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Social Workers and Occupational Therapists.

 

The Location

In Oamaru, there are benefits of being between both Canterbury and Otago so you can enjoy the great community right on your doorstep. Being the largest town in the Waitaki District and home to Steampunk HQ, it has a rich history and proud heritage. The beautiful Victorian Precinct attracts locals and tourist alike, with a lively atmosphere you will find, shops, galleries and traditional crafts set in Victorian streetscapes and 19th century architecture.

 

You must be a Registered Health Professional, with a current APC - Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist with experience working within a mental health sector, be eligible to live and work in New Zealand and hold a current NZ Drivers licence.
