Theatre Suite Assistant – Perioperative

Southland Hospital

  • Permanent, part time opportunity
  • 20 hours per week
  • Join our multidisciplinary team!

If you are a self-starter with a can do attitude who enjoys an action packed environment and is capable of performing a physically demanding role, we have the perfect opportunity for you! Here in Southland Hospital’s Perioperative department, we are on the look-out for a dedicated individual to join us as a Theatre Suite Assistant on a part-time permanent basis.

In this important role you’ll help with a range of tasks including:

  • Restocking and setting up of equipment
  • Patient handling and transfers
  • Transporting specimens and blood
  • Cleaning of department and communal facilities daily
  • Answering phones, and much more!

The Perioperative department operates Monday to Sunday. Your contribution to the unit will ensure that operations run to schedule and are well prepared so that our surgeons and clinical staff are able to perform their magic. The Theatre Suite Assistants are on rostered shifts Monday through Sunday with an additional on-call component

As noted above this is a physically demanding role, e.g. relocating beds/manual handling of patients, and as the role title implies, you’ll spend a portion of your time in the operating theatre. The team is supportive and friendly, and the opportunity to gain great job satisfaction is huge if you enjoy working at a fast pace and under pressure.

This position would suit someone (but is not restricted to) with existing hospital experience, however we’re happy to look wider.  Being computer literate is preferred, and full training of our systems will be given.

The Southern district offers the benefits of excellent amenities, first class primary through to tertiary education, affordable housing and outstanding recreational opportunities.  Whether it surfing, kayaking or sailing; skiing, hunting or fishing; theatre, live-music or art – there’s literally something for everyone.  Check out  for what the region and we can offer you and your whanau.

Closing Date: Sunday 27 May 2019
